Aster Lake Backcountry Camping, Peter Lougheed Provincial Park

Aster Lake Backcountry Campground is in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, 50 km south of Hwy. 1 on Hwy. 40 and south on Kananaskis Lakes Trail. The closest access is at the Upper Lake Day Use Area. It is 10.8 km from the trailhead via Upper Kananaskis Lake Circuit/Aster Lake Route Trail. This idyllic spot is accessed via an unmaintained trail so is only suitable for experienced hikers, prepared to routefind and fend for themselves. It has space for about 5 tents in an open meadow with beautiful mountain views. No fires are permitted. There are pit/vault toilets and secure food storage lockers.<b

Some of these have multiple campsites that can accommodate larger groups: Mile 10, Jackson Lake East and South, Kinnaird Island and Blackett Lake. As well as a backcountry composting toilet and fire pit, most of the camping areas are equipped with picnic tables and bear poles or bear lockers. Backcountry campsites are first come-first served. Lawrence Lake Campground is located in Lawrence Lake Provincial Recreation Area, 12 km west and 30 km north of Athabasca on Hwy. 2 to access road. This small lake is a great for boating, paddling, and fishing.<br>Five designated back-country camping areas are located throughout the park. Please see the map. As well as a backcountry composting toilet and fire pit, most of the camping areas are equipped with picnic tables and bear poles or bear lockers. Backcountry campsites are first come-first served.
