Ribbon Lake Backcountry Camping, Spray Valley Provincial Park

Ribbon Lake Backcountry Campground is in Spray Valley Provincial Park. There are several different ways to access it, including trail heads at Buller Mountain Day Use, Galatea Day Use, and Ribbon Creek Day Use. Note that there is a very steep section of trail with chains to aid climbing between Ribbon Falls and Ribbon Lake. Ribbon Lake is a gem tucked away in the heart of Spray Valley. Enjoy the peace and tranquility at this site. Here there are tent pads, group fire pits, firewood, pit/vault toilets, and secure food storage lockers.

There are a handful of walk-in tent sites as well. This large campground is found in Rock Lake Provincial Park. It is 7 km west on Hinton on Hwy. 16, 40 km northwest on Hwy. 40 and 35 km west on a gravel access road. Rummel Lake Winter Backcountry Campground is found in Spray Valley Provincial Park. The nearest access is near Mount Engadine Lodge, 40 km south of Canmore  on the Smith Dorrien/Spray Lakes Trail (Hwy. 742). The campground is about 5 km from the trailhead. This is the only designated winter backcountry campground in Kananaskis. Here you can enjoy the peacefulness of the forest and views of Rummel Lake and Mount Galatea in any season. This quiet little campground is found in Running Lake Provincial Recreation Area, 7 km east and 22 km north of Worsley. Treed sites are close to the lake, providing opportunities to swim, enjoy the beach, or launch a non-motorized or electric powered boat.
